American Marconi Wireless News - Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical Helps Build Sleep in Heavenly Peace's 10,000th Bed for Houston-Area Children

HOUSTON, TX / ACCESS Newswire / August 17, 2026 / Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical helped mark a major milestone for Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) earlier this summer, joining employees, families and community volunteers to help build the Houston-area chapter's 10,000th bed for a child in need.

The milestone was reached during a community bed build supported by Abacus as part of the company's partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering beds to children who do not have a safe, comfortable place to sleep. Abacus team members and their families rolled up their sleeves alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers to help construct beds that are being delivered to local children who might otherwise be sleeping on floors, couches or in other inadequate conditions.

Reaching 10,000 beds represents thousands of Houston-area children and families who have been impacted by the organization's work - and Abacus employees were proud to be part of the build that pushed the local effort across that milestone.

"Being there for the 10,000th bed made an already meaningful day even more special for our team," said Tony Patiño, President of Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical. "Our employees came out because they wanted to help, and seeing firsthand what Sleep in Heavenly Peace is accomplishing for children across our community was incredibly powerful. We're honored that Abacus could play a small part in such a significant milestone."

Sleep in Heavenly Peace operates under a simple but powerful mission: "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town." The organization mobilizes volunteers to build, assemble and deliver beds to children and families who need them. The need can easily go unnoticed. While food, clothing and school supplies are often at the forefront of community assistance programs, having a bed of their own can be equally important to a child's daily life and well-being.

For Abacus, participating in the build provided employees with an opportunity to directly contribute to addressing that need. "Our work has always been about taking care of people and their homes, but being part of the Houston community means looking beyond the services we provide every day," Patiño said. "When there's an opportunity to make life a little better for a local child or family, we want to show up and help."

Community engagement has long been part of Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical's culture. The two-time Houston Chronicle Best of the Best recipient (2024 and 2025) and 17-time Houston Better Business Bureau Award of Excellence-winning company regularly supports local nonprofits and charitable programs aimed at improving quality of life for families across the region. By partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Abacus is helping address a critical but often overlooked need while also encouraging its employees to participate directly in community service.

The Sleep in Heavenly Peace partnership combines employee volunteerism with community awareness efforts designed to bring additional attention to the nonprofit's mission and the continuing need for beds for Houston-area children. For Abacus employees who participated earlier this summer, however, the impact was tangible: they helped turn lumber and volunteer hours into actual beds for local children - including one bed carrying a particularly meaningful number.

10,000.

"This is about showing up where there's a need," Patiño said. "Ten thousand beds is an incredible accomplishment for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, but it also reminds us that every one of those beds represents an individual child. That's what makes this work so important."
