GD Association Launches $30M Campaign to Expand Realistically Priced Housing Options and Combat Homelessness
The initiative responds to a growing crisis. As of 2024, more than 16,000 (41% male, 59% female) people in King County are unhoused on any given night. GD Association's campaign addresses this urgent need by focusing on sustainable housing solutions, wraparound support services, and community partnerships that foster long-term financial stability.
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON / ACCESS Newswire / June 24, 2025 / GD Association, a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is proud to announce the launch of a transformational capital campaign aimed at addressing homelessness and economic displacement across King County. Over the next five years, the organization seeks to raise $30 million to fund the construction and renovation of affordable housing developments, providing individuals and families facing housing insecurity with permanent, stable places to call home.
As of 2024, more than 16,000 (41% male, 59% female) people in King County are unhoused on any given night.
One of the campaign's critical priorities is providing housing for an often-overlooked population: single fathers with minor children. Unlike single mothers, single men with children are typically forced to separate from their families in order to receive shelter, as most group housing cannot accommodate them together. GD Association is committed to changing that, ensuring that no parent has to choose between a roof and staying with their children.
"This campaign isn't just about building housing. It's about building a future where every Seattle resident has a chance to thrive," said Terry Lott, Executive Director at GD Association. "That includes working parents, vulnerable families, and yes, single fathers who are trying to do the right thing and keep their families together. In addition to providing realistic, affordable housing alternatives, we're addressing the root causes of homelessness - mental health, underemployment, gentrification - while investing in the people and neighborhoods that define this city."
The campaign will focus on:
Constructing and rehabilitating affordable housing units in high-need areas
Providing younger, low-income workers with access to stable housing near their places of employment
Partnering with local agencies to support residents with case management and essential amenities
Preserving historically Black neighborhoods in Seattle's Central District
Creating family-first housing solutions for underserved populations, including single fathers with children
GD Association is calling on local corporations, private philanthropists, and elected officials to join this effort as funding partners, advocates, and change agents. With support from the broader community, the campaign will create a lasting impact and drive systemic progress. Visit gdassociation.org for more information.
"The need is real, the urgency is high, and the moment is now," Lott said. "We invite Seattle's business leaders, policymakers, and neighbors to stand with us as we create meaningful, measurable solutions to one of the city's most pressing challenges."
