How Pennsylvania's First Helpany Community Achieved Zero Falls
After deploying Helpany's radar-based AI platform in January 2026, United Zion senior living community cut falls by 70% in four months - and closed April with zero recorded falls, a first in the community's history
LITITZ, PA / ACCESS Newswire / May 18, 2026 / United Zion Retirement Community, a senior living community in Lititz, Pennsylvania and the first community in the state to implement Helpany's AI-powered care platform, has announced transformative results in resident safety following the deployment of the system across all personal care (assisted living) units. Over a four-month observation period-January through April 2026-the community achieved a 70% reduction in falls compared to its historic baseline, culminating in zero recorded falls in April 2026-the lowest monthly fall count in the community's history. In parallel, Helpany's AI-powered service plan assessment revealed that 1 in 3 care plans required realignment, meaning documented care levels no longer fully reflected residents' evolving needs and risks.

Falls remain one of the most dangerous and costly challenges in long-term care. Each year, more than 3 million falls occur in long-term care- and an estimated 1 million are preventable. Falls aren't just medical incidents; they reveal a deeper systemic challenge, threatening resident independence, straining caregiver resources, and disrupting community stability. A single fall can trigger long-term health setbacks, emotional distress for families, and costly move-outs that impact everyone involved.
To address this challenge, United Zion Retirement Community implemented Helpany's AI-powered fall prevention system. Helpany's radar-based device, Paul, is installed on the ceiling of each resident's apartment. Without using cameras or microphones, Paul continuously analyzes each resident's unique motion patterns - detecting subtle shifts in gait, sleep, bathroom frequency, and sedentary behavior - and notifies caregivers when intervention may be needed. With Paul, the care team gained a 24/7 virtual caregiver assistant always on duty, providing a level of visibility into resident well-being that had simply not existed before. By enabling caregivers to identify subtle condition changes earlier, the platform helped support proactive interventions before situations escalated into falls.
The improvement strengthened month-by-month. January showed a meaningful reduction in falls compared to the 2025 baseline. February improved even further. By March, the community had surpassed an 80% monthly reduction. April closed with zero recorded falls - a historic milestone and confirmation that consistent, proactive, AI-powered intervention had fundamentally transformed how risk was managed within the community.
"Achieving zero falls in April 2026 was a historic milestone for our community and a moment our entire team is proud of," said Miranda Troyer, Director of Personal Care at United Zion Retirement Community. "Those numbers reflected not only fewer incidents, but a meaningful shift in how we identify risk, prioritize care, and support residents proactively. With Helpany's AI-powered platform, our residents are safer, families have greater peace of mind, and our caregivers are able to work with more confidence, focus, and resilience every day." The outcomes extended well beyond fall counts. Helpany's AI-powered service plan assessment revealed that 1 in 3 care plans required realignment-meaning documented care levels no longer fully reflected residents' evolving needs and risks. By proactively adjusting care plans and interventions sooner, the care team was able to ensure residents received the right level of support at the right time. Better insight led to earlier interventions. Earlier interventions led to fewer falls. And fewer falls transformed the entire culture of care.
"United Zion Retirement Community is setting a new benchmark for what's possible in senior living - and for the entire state of Pennsylvania," said Sandro Cilurzo, Co-Founder and CEO of Helpany. "As the first community in Pennsylvania to implement Helpany, they have demonstrated what proactive, AI-powered care looks like in practice. Zero falls in a month is the result of a team that embraced proactive care and used data to act before incidents occurred. Behind every fall is a person, a story, and a life that can be changed forever. What United Zion has accomplished demonstrates how AI-powered, privacy-first technology can deliver deeper care insights without cameras or microphones - helping protect residents while preserving dignity."
