Meillard leads after first run in Val d'Isere slalom

Swiss skier Loic Meillard clocked the fastest time in the first run of the men's World Cup slalom race in Val d'Isere on Sunday.

Meillard, who picked up his first World Cup win of the season on Saturday in the giant slalom, clocked 47.49sec to edge Norwegians Timon Haugan at 0.05sec and Atle Lie McGrath at 0.14sec.

Reigning slalom world champion Meillard will bid to achieve the first giant slalom and slalom double in the Alpine resort since French skier Francois Bonlieu in 1964.

Olympic slalom champion Clement Noel of France was frustrated after finishing eighth fastest 1.10sec off the pace on the demanding Face de Bellevarde piste.

The second leg gets underway at 1200GMT.
