Wicky named coach of MLS Sporting Kansas City
Swiss coach Raphael Wicky was named as the new head coach of Sporting Kansas City on Monday, the MLS club announced.
Wicky, 48, who previously coached Switzerland's Young Boys and Chicago Fire, replaces American Peter Vermes, who parted company with the club in March after 15 years after starting the 2025 season with five losses and a draw.
"Rapha's teams are attack-minded, high-energy and possession-oriented -– all qualities that represent the style of play we want to implement," Sporting president of soccer operations David Lee said.
Wicky, who coached Chicago in 2020 and 2021, guided Young Boys to the 2022-23 Swiss Super League title and Cup double, the side going 51-17 with 20 drawn in his tenure while averaging 2.19 goals a game.
"I'm really excited to get started and get to know the team, the staff and the players," Wicky said.
"The club has all the ingredients to get back to where it belongs."
Sporting went 7-20-7 last season, 27th overall in MLS.
