Former England rugby captain George to retire in 2027
Former England captain Jamie George has announced he will retire after completing the 2026-27 season with Saracens.
George signed a one-year contract extension on Wednesday and said it would be his last deal before hanging up his boots.
The 35-year-old has made 105 appearances for England and skippered his country in 2024.
He took part in three tours with the British and Irish Lions and has played more than 300 times for English Prem club Saracens.
"I have always been very open and honest and I wanted to continue to do that with regards to my retirement," George said.
"I'm sure it seems early to be announcing this with another season to go, but I want to make sure I soak up every moment of my final season.
"I am more motivated than ever to finish my career at Saracens in a successful way."
George made his England debut in 2015, going on to win three Six Nations titles.
He was also a member of the England squad that finished as World Cup runners-up in 2019 and reached the semi-finals in 2023.
George has won six Prem titles and three European Champions Cups during his 17-year spell with Saracens.
