New Zealand build 164-run lead but Windies claim Williamson

New Zealand built a healthy 164-run lead over the West Indies, but lost the key wicket of Kane Williamson as they went to lunch at 100-2 on day three of the first Test in Christchurch on Thursday.

Williamson was dismissed on the last ball before the break for nine with Tom Latham unbeaten on 40.

Latham and Devon Conway put on 84 for the first wicket, negating the swing and seam still on offer, as they added to New Zealand's 64-run first innings lead.

But late in the session, and against the run of play, Conway slashed at a wide delivery from Ojay Shields and was caught by substitute fielder Kavem Hodge for 37.

Williamson did not look settled during his brief stay and escaped with an early boundary when he top-edged a Justin Greaves delivery that flew just over the wicketkeeper's head.

Kemar Roach ended Williamson's stay with a full delivery that moved away and just found the edge of the bat as it went through to Tevin Imlach.
